SAVE THE DATE: FINAL PUBLIC FORUM FOR CHELTENHAM FACILITIES UPDATE TOMORROW NIGHT THURSDAY, 16 NOVEMBER AT 7:30PM

Disclaimer: Cheltenham GOP will be sending this reminder every day until this meeting has been called to order.

This meeting will be the FINAL meeting allowing the citizens of Cheltenham Township to express our thoughts in a Public Forum. This is the most pressing matter our Township faces and will result in the borrowing & expenditure of up to hundreds of millions of dollars.

The Township Commissioners vowed to make their final decision in December 2023 or January 2024- both just weeks awayThey will decide the fate of our 16 Township-owned facilities which includes multiple recreation centers, multiple libraries, multiple swimming pools and other Township Services like the Public Works building, the Police Department and EHS facilities.

At the last Township Commissioner meeting they also introduced the idea our local government could seize private property under eminent domain in order to carry out one or several of the proposed options under consideration.

Among the options the Township Commissioners will consider would be to close our two swimming pools & build a new centrally located pool at a site to be determined.

Last meeting there were approximately 70 citizens in attendance out of approximately 37,000 Cheltenham Township residents. Let’s hear everyone’s voices & attend the FINAL Public Forum before a decision is to be made.

Comments

  1. Please beware that on the agenda for the FACILITIES MEETING Item 7 discusses calling for a possible vote.

    • Thom Estilow says

In a recent meeting the Commissioners indicated they plan on voting on this matter either December or January. There is no need for a rush to judgment as a new Ward 3 Commissioner will be sworn-in in a few weeks. In deference to the new Commissioner, this vote should be tabled at least until then.
